      World Day Of   Prayer

 

 

The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement which brings Christians of many faiths together

to observe a common day of prayer. 

The motto of the World Day of Prayer movement

is “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action”. 

Through our participation in the WDP we affirm

that prayer and and action go together and that both

have a powerful influence on the world.

 

 

This year’s World Day of Prayer was on Friday, March 4th 

The designated World Day of Prayer has passed for this year . . . however ANY DAY is the day

for us to join in prayer for our community, our state, our nation and our world . . Let Us Pray

 

     Lenten Season

 Lent is the 40 day journey leading up to Easter Sunday.  It is the season of preparation during which we focus our hearts and minds on the life of Jesus.  During this season we focus on prayer and ask forgiveness for the things that distract us from God. We look inward and reflect on our readiness to

follow Jesus in his journey towards the cross.

   

Holy Week worship schedule;

April 18 - 22 noon services and lunch

12:05 -12:30 worship and 12:30 – 12:55 lunch

 

Monday April  18 - Ashland United Methodist

Tuesday April 19 – First Christian

Wednesday April 20 – Congregational

Thursday April 21 – St. Marys Catholic

Friday April 22 – American Lutheran 

 

An

Annual Men’s Winter Rally and Buffalo Feed

 

First Christian Church (DOC) of Grand Island

is inviting the men(and women)

to their annual fellowship event on March 26, 2011. 

Tickets cost $12.00 and reservations need to be made by March 12th

 

The main speaker will be Dr. Ronald J. Allen, Professor of Preaching

& New Testament, Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, Indiana

(and former Co-Pastor of First Christian Church in Grand Island).

We will likely be car-pooling to save fuel costs 

 

 

  Baptism Classes  

Pastor Mike will be offering a baptism class starting May 1st. 

The class will run for six weeks and meet on Sunday mornings during the Sunday school hour.  At the end of classes participants will decide if they would like to be baptized. 

Baptism will take place on Pentecost Sunday, June 12th

 

The class is open to anyone 12 years of age or older.

It is also open to those who are interested in a refresher course,

renewing their commitment but not being re-baptized.
